I'm a manager in a metal fabrication company (precision sheet metal,
assemblies, etc.--a job shop) and can hardly believe the quality and
durability of these vintage machines.  It occurred to me that these were
built by a different culture from our own; one that valued building things "the best they could be built".  Not disposable.  Not for short-term pleasure. These were meant to last your lifetime, more like a home than a mere appliance.  These are, in essence, relics of mid-century America at its zenith of mechanical age pre-eminence.

Yet stoves, unlike cars, never really lose their functional capacity.
The machine is essentially gas plumbing in an insulated box.  There's no reason (other than availability of hydro-carbon gases) that these vintage stoves, if cared for, can't perform for literally generations to come.
